  • The following guides can help you acknowledge other people's work in your writing. This is also important so that you can avoid the crime of plagiarism.

    Please become familiar with the rules on plagiarism in Australia.

    The following guides are from the UNSW Learning Centre.

    • Referencing is a system that allows you to acknowledge the sources of information you use in your writing. If you do not reference your sources you are plagiarising. The Harvard system requires citations within a piece of writing (in-text) and also the list of references at the end of the writing.

    • There are various sources of information (books, journals, websites, etc) and increasingly, electronic sources (i.e. the internet, emails, etc) are becoming more common. Look at this document for the rules for citations of various types of electronic sources (the 'in-text' document above lists how to cite various "hard copy" sources, e.g. books).
