PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU USE THE RESOURCES IN OTHER SKILL AREAS AS WELL (e.g. Reading, Listening, Grammar, etc. sections of Independent Learning). You can improve your English more quickly if you study a variety and NOT ONLY Exam skills.

    What are Exam skills?

There are various types of tests that you can practise.  It is important to become familiar with the test structure. Remember, it is also necessary to learn exam skills.

For example, what is the main purpose of a reading test?

    - to read and fully understand the whole text(s)?......NO!

....The purpose is to FIND THE ANSWERS QUICKLY. This is a different kind of reading and requires "exam skills". For example:

    • should you look near the beginning or end of a text for a particular answer?
    • should you read all of the first sentence of the paragraph or just the first phrase in the first sentence?
    • how many types of questions are there and what skills does each one require?

      • Do practice tests every week, not just the weekend before the tests.
      • Use a time limit when you practise.
      • Why did you get a lower score?

Do this activity to help you understand your weaker areas, which will then help you to improve your scores!
