Excellent resources for practising lecture listening AND note-taking. If you are an Academic English student, make sure you add this kind of study in to your regular schedule. Remember to think about:
- structure of lecture (can you identify an introduction / body / conclusion?)
- signal language (e.g. "Now, let's move on to...", "Ok, now I'd like to...", etc = starting a new point / e.g. "For example, / For instance," "To illustrate this,", etc = example language - there are many more groups, e.g. cause/effect, reason/result, problem/solution, adding more detail, giving evidence, etc)
- new topic vocabulary (learn new words in a systematic way - also see the Tutorial in the Vocabulary section on "Building Vocabulary through Reading")
